Mark Goudy came to ceramics late in life following varied careers as a musician, chemistry lab technician, and 20 years working as a digital chip design engineer in the computer graphics industry (Pixar, Silicon Graphics, nVidia). His love of ceramics started with a raku class, homage to his recently deceased mother who was a lifelong potter. After many years working in the virtual world of digital hardware design, he found working with clay resonating on a deep unconscious level. Mark’s work merges his engineering and artistic sensibilities, the culmination of a lifetime of experiences. His approach to clay stems from a love of geometrics in nature and abstract minimalist art. Mark see his mission to create a coherent visual language and then learn to speak from that language. Mark has a BA degree in Biology and a Masters in Electrical engineering. His other passions include wilderness adventures and travel. He has visited over 60 countries and finds the exposure to other cultures and environments mind expanding and a great resource for new ideas in clay and glass. Mark lives in Berkeley with his wife, and ceramic artist, Liza Riddle.
