Warren MacKenzie

Warren MacKenzie is a living legend. His career spans over 60 years, where he has consistently made pots for everyday use. MacKenzie has touched and inspired generations of contemporary potters through his teaching at the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis. MacKenzie’s early career was influenced by British potter Bernard Leach, where he apprenticed for 3 years. Once back in the states, these influences translated into the ideas of the Arts and Crafts Movement, where MacKenzie began to create simple utilitarian pots for use.

Warren claims to have had little influence on his many devoted students at the Univ. of MN. Yet, he is an icon, perhaps more through his way of life and work, than through his adamant beliefs surrounding pricing.

At 88 years old, Warren Mackenzie is still making work steadily in his Stillwater, MN studio, and is Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota.
