Sunshine Cobb

Cups are one of my favorite objects to make. The mugs and cups that are a part of this show are an expression of my desire to have surface match shape/form. I like to layer information in small steps, coil and pinched form, slip, drawings, glaze, sandblasting and sanding all help in defining the object and create a sense of depth in the surface. My hope is to lure a user with the soft hand-built form and seduce with the luscious soft surface. Often the form of my cups and mugs are an expression of how I use my cups, which can be a rough and tumble on the go existence. I want them to be sturdy, stable, easy to hold and use, I also want to imbue the pots with a sense of quiet and grace that can easily be part of one’s daily use.
