Scott Parady got his MFA from Penn State University and currently is a ceramics professor at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, CA. Scott fires an anagama wood kiln which he built on beautiful wooded acres in Pope Valley, CA . Much of Scott’s work is pinched rather than wheel thrown. He is facile at building volumes, (as small as a teabowl or as big as a large urn) with harmony. The gesture and surfaces are inviting places for wood ash to land. Sometimes the foot is cut, using a knife to procure torn disrupted clay surfaces. One can turn the pot in the hand and make discoveries all the way around. Scott’s work delights the discerning eye; a pleasure to the tea connoisseur, as well as the chef.
